Steps for installing cylinder sleeve:
- You must strip the cylinder and remove the parts like nuts, studs, manifolds, bolts, etc.
- Bore the cylinder out to accept the sleeve. When you complete the installation of sleeve in aluminum cylinder, ensure the interference fit should be .004. For CI cylinder bore, this interference can be in range of .002 to .003.
- You can find the interference fit by measuring the outer diameter of the cylinder sleeve and then boring the cylinder diameter smaller than the sleeve.
- Heat the cylinder in to over between 400°, up to 450° for minimum an hour. Never use torch or hot plate when you perform this step. It is necessary to heat cylinder uniformly.
- Remove the cylinder from oven and you can easily drop the sleeve into the cylinder.
- You need to put the cylinder under hydraulic press to prevent rising of sleeve when the cylinder is cooling.
- Blend the ports of the sleeve by using hand grinding porting tools.
- Once the matching of ports is done, sleeve must be bored out to ensure clearance of piston.
- Perform decking in order to ensure that the head gasket will sit on the cylinder to form a good sealing surface.
